Case History Watti - Skin Allergy

  8th March
We went to see Watti at her owners' farm today. The pictures show her condition graphically. We have not seen such a severe allergic case before.

Normally an almost white grey, there are just a few patches of her coat remaining now as can be seen on her head.Everywhere else she is covered in scabs from an oozing rash.

We found that she had an acute allergy to barley and yeast as well as a candida infestation coming from her feed and supplements, along with her old bedding which was still stored nearby and was in the box next door.

The whole area in her proximity is going to be thoroughly cleaned of all traces of barley and barley straw even dust particles in the air to give her the best chance to build up her resistance to it with the help of her own tailor made specific desensitising drops, which we have made up for her.

We hope that these measures will help her back to health and that no other allergies appear as the main factor is neutralised, which can occur in such extreme cases.

Update- 22nd March
Went back to see Watti today and were amazed to see a totally different horse. She has now got her coat coming through all over (photo to follow) as well as the scabs depleting, despite a setback with a reaction to a different wheat straw bedding before changing once again to shavings. She was no longer distressed just keen to get back to the field to graze.

Update- 20th April
Dropped in to take a photo of Watti as her owner was so thrilled with her recovery. She is back in full work again and is thriving as she prepares to compete once more eventing. The HTJ Centre analysis and treatments have worked spectacularly.
